The Birth Of Our School

An extension of Jeevan Mitra Pratishthan Charitable Trust, established and founded by Vinayak Deokar in 2002 to provide financial aid to people suffering from fatal and other serious illnesses, Mahatma Gandhi School was brought into existence by Jeevan Mitra Educational Society.

In its active years, the parent organization successfully disbursed Rs.7 crores, covering medical treatment expenses in a span of 12 years. This incredible attainment of serving the needy led us to widen our reach and target the most vulnerable section of society – the children. Though education is a fundamental human right, it is also a far-fetched dream for those who struggle on a daily basis and can hardly make ends meet.

The survival strategies often include withdrawing children from schools or never enrolling them in the first place. Single mothers and wives of prisoners tend to pick up odd jobs and end up being stigmatized, ruling out possibilities of sending their children to schools of sizeable repute. Education is out of reach for children of those who earn measly wages and work their fingers to the bones too because of the exorbitant fee structure. Last but not the least, we aim to disrupt child labour practice which also is a factor in keeping children from stepping into school.

The Founder, driven by his passion and commitment towards serving the society, along with a group of doctors and other socially responsible individuals came together to build an institution to help nurture young minds and gather dreams shattered by inevitable circumstances.
